Pride is the glittering vice that whispers “you’re unsinkable” right up until you hit the iceberg. It shrinks our humanity, isolates us from others, and quietly edges God out of the centre of our lives. But when we, like Nebuchadnezzar, finally “raise our eyes toward heaven,” we discover there is a God and we are not it. Confession is how proud people come clean, come low, and are surprisingly lifted up by grace.
