Greed

Pastor:
Passage: 1 Kings 21:1-20

Greed, or avarice, is not simply the sin of the very wealthy. It is the disordered desire for more than we need and more than we can enjoy: a heart condition that distorts our relationship with God, others, and material things. In the story of Ahab and Naboth’s vineyard, we watch avarice move from sullen pouting to political murder, exposing the full chain greed sets in motion when left unchecked. Avarice, like all the deadly vices, is a corrupted love: a good desire for provision and security twisted into grasping self-sufficiency. The path out is not moralistic willpower but a reordering of the heart.
