Gluttony

Pastor:
Passage: 1 Sam. 2:12-16, John 6: 47-58

Food and eating are not spiritually neutral – throughout Scripture, every meal is a small rehearsal of our dependence on God and our communion with one another. The deadly sin of gluttony is not primarily about body size or overeating, but about a disordered heart that looks to food and consumption to fill a hunger only God can satisfy. Jesus meets this deadly heart habit not by calling us to restriction but by offering himself as the Bread of Life, the only one who can quiet the deep ache that drives our compulsive consuming.
